The fair is over. The night after the first day the benevolent sister and I both fell asleep soon after we got home - we were sooo tired. The sunday had been warm and the fair overcrowded.
Our plans for the decoration were overruled as soon as we arrived because all the booths had to stay open.
So we improvised, flexible and creative as we are.
Since this was our first fair ever, for both of us, we experienced a short but steep learning curve. The light blue table cloth on the first day did not set off our tea cozies and prints enough, so today we used a black one:
which worked way better. We attracted twice as many visitors. The sister had already understood that putting the cozies upright was better than laying them down flat, too. She sold a whole bunch of them, as well as a few Ipad covers.
I was there mainly to talk to people about my portraits to attract new customers- and talk we did!
Since today was overcast and the fair was less crowded we enjoyed it much more.
online friends
One of the fun things of having a second, online life is that, again, I got to meet people that I have been emailing with or following on twitter or Facebook. Such as Julie Hendriks from Beerlala, who makes beautifully coloured children’s paintings, the Bilthoven painter Claudia Douwes Dekker, or the talented illustration student Carly Abrahams who has a great new art/style blog. Go check it out!
I also met up again with a wonderful Utrecht interior/and product designer, Mirjam Dallinga. All day we kept sending people to her booth for fun, expressly asking them to tell her it was us who had pointed them to it – ‘So that by the end of the day’, we said, ‘she may really like us’.
They all did, as she came to tell us after the fair.
People can be so nice!

Yeah, looks like a great weekend for you! Now, did you sell out??
No. I only brought a few postcards though and the lady giving the finger – which was too small to really get noticed, I noticed. But I went there for exposure.
Hee, thanks!
@kathryn: since yesterday the lady giving the finger has the best place on my mantlepiece however!
Well done Kitty! So many benefits of getting out to markets occasionally to meet people, face to face, to talk about your work, and to share your support of other artists. sounds like you had loads of fun too : )
