Textile Museum Tilburg 2

So – inside the Tilburg textile Museum: one of the modern weaving machines. Right here weaving insect teatowels designed by Studio Job.

Techniques practised in the museum ‘lab’ are knitting, embroidery, weaving, printing, tufting, lasering and dying.

Commissions by artists (Janpeter Muilwijk on the right).

Reminders of the blanket factory – skilfully stylised – marking the entrance to the hall with 19th century machinery.

There we found Norwegian student Marie Lôbo weaving happily. She is in Tilburg as one of eight students on a five week trainee program where they can experiment with help of the technical staff. Right here she is weaving a long ribbon made of all sorts of found and collected material. The warp is interspersed with loops of muslin on which she printed hebrew texts about How It All Began – and all sorts of other soft materials . The warp itself consists of varying materials too. I spotted orange fish rope that she must have scooped up from the beach. I figured her theme is sustainability – go see more of her weavings on the Marielobo website.

And so we wandered around, chatting with the technicians who handle the machines and artists who led various workshops – I will throw in a few more pictures just for the fun of it.

…Guess I don’t need to say this is one of my favorite museums!
