Here’s the sonnet.
(Shakespearean,: 10 syllables to each line, 3 quatrains followed by a couplet of two lines with volta).
And for those of you who missed the blog post in which I mention Ming-Zhu and her use of language, click here.
A sonnet for a bitch who says fuck
One day I met a lady who wrote FUCK.
She wrote it just like that, upon the ‘net.
And when I asked her by what stroke of luck
she chanced upon that word, the lady said:
‘I always, like a sailor, used to swear.
I practised it since I was still a gal.
I even learned to say it with an air
and now I use it all the time. Fuck, hell!’
Since I was understandably impressed
I tried to say it, too. My lips refused
at first – poor things – perhaps they thought it best
to stick to words conventionally used.
But then I forced it out. And since I did
my words are mine, to use as I see fit.

I am deeply shamed by the fact that these brilliant people for whom English is not a first language can use such sophisticated poetic conceits, the likes of which I may never hope to fully understand…. Thank you Kitty. This has made my day. x
Poetic conceits! Sounds good.
Hell yes.
