No really, how many times does she have to repeat herself?

Last fall I went to see Origin and bought two pieces by Caren Garfen.
I love her work – because I love textile, and witty texts, and art about women and art about daily life. In short, Caren does all the things I love.

(Why don’t I do them myself, I sometimes wonder, but then I think: life is too short, we have to be selective in our undertakings. Which I will then start to doubt again ;-)

Yesterday I stumbled upon this interesting interview (‘How many times do I have to repeat myself?’) with Caren. She talks very openly and camly and with humour about her work and you get an idea of the sort of life she leads. The quilt she made was done especially for the V&A quilt exhibition last spring – Garfen normally does not do quilts, but modern embroidery.

More about Caren Garfen on her personal website and on the website of The 62 Group of Textile Artists, an artist led organisation of British textile artists.

(My sketchbook project is on hold till next week. Happy new year to all of you!)

Love this interview. Especially when she mentions how her work ties into technical research by chance.
