Little Owls / Steenuilen

Still working on the nature illo’s.

My creative pal Chantal Vincent asked for everyone to submit owls, and since they were high on my list as well I made these two little fellows yesterday. I know I took some liberty with the colours, as they are basically brown and white, but they still look real enough to me.

Funny, I so like drawing birds, but they could not send me on a bird watching trip with binoculars, I’d be bored within half an hour! I

Yay! They are fabulous Kitty. I think your 3 bird illustrations would all look good together. The various blues are so striking.

I love the colors, all the blues! I agree with Chantal, could we see all those together in a group? I bet it would be amazing!

ps – I love your latest side stitch. How did you get the texture on the orange? Is it just newspaper painted over? I really love the technique and just discovered a painting that had something similar.

Thanks! Actually the darkness surrounding the owls is pretty purple.. I might do them again in a lighter version. This was a funny incident where I could not get my printer to print the right colour blue I chose, so in the end I changed the drawing. Need to get into this..

The orange on the Queen Side Stitch is a coppery gold acrylics paint. The texture is there because I stitched first and painted later and the newspaper is really of such bad quality.. even though I put a layer of gesso on, first. It looks kind of weathered that way so that's OK.

You intend to start using paint on your textile pieces?
