Blown away by Diem Chau’s artwork

I saw the book Juxtapoz Handmade in the bookstore yesterday. It is about art/craft/design made of unusual materials. And I was struck by Diem Chau’s work. She is an American artist (from a Vietnamese background) who works in different media and likes anything small.

When I looked at the pictures in the book I was wandering how on earth she got those little embroidery lines on the ceramic..

But then I saw the corners of this cup and realized Chau had done the embroidery on gauze and pasted the gauze over the cup. Clever. They photograph really well. Beautiful stuff!

I'm familiar with her work and have loved how she juxtaposes something heavy with something light. I wondered too how she did those pieces, nice to know!
